Irene sat on the bench, listening to Rogue flip through the magazine on her lap. The pages were being turned with more force as minutes passed and she could sense the anger in the girl. “You know you cannot get a haircut here,” Irene reminded her, gently placing a hand on her daughter’s covered arm.
Rogue wrenched her arm away and Irene sighed. “I’m going outside,” Rogue replied and Irene listened to the sound of the bell announcing her exit.
Irene ignored the images that bombarded her, knowing the girl wouldn’t get into any trouble, and needed to release some of her adolescent turmoil. She enjoyed a haircut before exiting the shop and finding Raven in the coffee shop across the street.
“It looks lovely,” Raven remarked.
“Rogue is getting ice cream,” Irene stated, anticipating her lover’s question.
“Why?” Raven asked, irritated.
“She is fine, Raven,” Irene replied, running a hand through her hair.
“I do not understand how you can be so flippant about her wandering off,” Raven stated, angrily.
“Keeping her locked away in that house will do nothing but make her antsy and reckless,” Irene said, taking a sip of Raven’s coffee. “She needs to interact with others.”
“She has us,” Raven replied and Irene smiled, sensing the fury in the other woman’s expression.
“We are not enough,” Irene replied, ignoring Raven’s huff, knowing they would always disagree on this particular subject.
