Works in Progress meme

1.

"Your response is not endearing your motives to me, Rogue." Magneto's fist tightened and she glared.

"Yeah, well, yours ain't really endearing you to me either," she snapped, hands pressing against her hips.

There were unpleasant murmurs from the others but Rogue didn't care, keeping her focus on Magneto. Refusing to back down. "My lord, perhaps she truly is a spy. Sent here by Xavier to infiltrate the society you are trying to cultivate," Fabian Cortez offered, and she rolled her eyes. That was beyond ridiculous.

"You believe that then I should just leave." Rogue tried to rise but he wasn't letting her and she growled. "Out of everyone in this room, Eri--Magneto, who hasn't tried to kill you. Cause if'n I remember correctly, I'm one of those. He"--she nodded towards Cortez--"ain't."

"However, I believe in his cause," Cortez stated, and she heard a hint of nervousness in his voice.

Rogue snorted. "And I'm the Easter Bunny."

2. "Let's go." Raven stalked towards the car, tucking the girl in the back seat. The child was asleep in a few moments, overwhelmed by her own exhaustion and Raven drove, irritated. "You knew," she hissed, glaring sideways at Irene.

"Of course," Irene replied, smiling slowly. "I am a precog, schatzen."

Raven growled again. "That is not what I meant."

It didn't matter. Irene was already fiddling with the radio dials. There would be no talking with her for the moment. Raven glanced in the rearview mirror at the sleeping child and sighed. This was not at all going like she'd envisioned it. She drove a few miles above the speed limit, wanting to leave this backwards Mississippi town far behind but not gather any more attention then was neccessary. Hitting the highway, she relaxed a little, wondering what precisely they would do with this child.

"This is not going according to plan," she grumbled, wanting to put as much distance between them and the town as soon as possible.

"Not according to your plan, love." Raven glanced over at Irene and sighed in frustration at her smirk.

"Perhaps then, Irene, you could have alerted me to more of the details, hmmm?" Raven pursed her lips, annoyed and focused on driving. Prior experience told her that Irene would be no help at the moment.

3. Josh is dead--no Icarus, he wanted to be known as Icarus now. My little brother trying so hard to follow in Sam and my footsteps. Go to school become an X-Man. Grow up way too fast. I think that's the problem with mutants, we all grow up entirely too fast. And now Josh is dead. And not because he was fighting some so-called rotten people or savin' the world. No, the damn Danger Room killed him. Tricked him cause he so wanted to believe he was still able to fly. That his power that he thought defined him wasn't gone.

Why couldn't he understand that he is--was, damn it, was--so much more than a mutant. He was first and foremost a Guthrie boy. A little rascal of a child and the fastest runner out of the lot of us. Eager to please and always ready with a joke. The exact opposite of Sam and me.

My beautiful baby brother won't be remembered for what he was--a kind, fun-loving boy who loved the wind and thought soaring in the clouds was as close to God as he could possibly get while bein' alive--but as collateral damage from the Danger Room going all kinds of crazy. Only his death will ever be remembered.

I don't know what to do, how to tell Pa and Ma that he died. How he died. I'm afraid for my little sister Melody, still here on this campus. So lost without her power. Resenting me somethin' terrible cause I got mine. Cause Warren can still fly. Cause the world has gone insane and don't look like its gonna stop bein' crazy for a long time.

Is this really all worth it? This never ending struggle to fight, to survive. Ain't really sure anymore.\
